ripped off?

February 23, 2006

So tell me this is not ridiculous. Last week, Wayne took nan, noor, and me for indonesian food at Sanur Suntec City. First thing staff does it place a basket of keropok on our table, and asked us if we’d like a jug of lime juice. Yeah ok…we all liked lime juice. Had a great meal, until i saw the bill.

I’m the sort of girl that doesn’t eat the nuts at chinese restaurants, or use the wet towellettes unless necessary. And i get cheesed off at how restaurants charge you for these things whether or not you’ve used them!

I know it drives Wayne NUTZ, but i believe it’s a matter of principles. These restaurants just hope you skim through the bill, and pay for those towellettes that would probably be used for the next person sitting at that table. Maybe just wipe off that drop of?crab sauce i dripped on the plastic, and WaH LA! ?I just don’t like feeling cheated.

And what makes it worse? WHen prices are ridiculous… 3 bucks for a few pieces of?keropok and get this…. $18.95 FOR A JUG OF LIME JUICE. That was the most expensive thing on the bill!

If maybe…the ambience was magnificent, service great, food delicious………… WHo am i kidding $18.85 FOR A JUG OF LIME JUICE!!

more shopping… this is baaadd…

February 22, 2006

Another post on shopping… but biking related.
I now have a 1.5 litre camelbak, and got to use it on saturday and sunday. Unfortunately… i think its capacity is a teeny bit too small… 3/4 of the ride, i’m forced to stop and drink from Wayne’s. argh…

And this afternoon, i finally got myself a pair of shimano shoes. For the past few weeks, i’ve been getting bad cuts on my legs caused by my pedals. Everyone keeps telling me to get SPDs, they’re like these clip ons that click your shoes into the pedals, that way i don’t lose footing and scratch my legs. Honestly, i’m too scared to use them…so it will be awhile until i get SPDs. But i can get the shoe first!! I really wanted a shoe that matched the (future) colour of my bike, but the ones i wanted were all sold out! lose…so these are the next best choice. Shimano SH-M037, highly recommended in forums, so let’s hope this baby lasts.

Wayne liked them so much, he wanted a pair for himself… too bad no size…tehehehe….

My Bloody Valentine

February 20, 2006

My Bloody Valentine!
No blood or gore, but it would have been if he paid for dinner!
My bloody valentine broke our promise and bought me something for Valentines Day? I always felt it was a waste of money! We wanted to have a simple dinner at a hawker centre or something, not because it was Valentines Day, just because we felt like having dinner together, so I wore my quarter pants and flip flops to Holland village. But we just couldn?t resist the idea of having Da Paolo?s Pizza Bar Pizzas!

So predictable too? they had heart-shaped pizza on the menu. THE ONLY REASON why we ordered that is because, I wanted a mushroomy pizza and Wayne wanted a meaty pizza, and JUST SO HAPPENED the heart-shaped one was half-half of that!

Pizza cost a lot too? Bloody Valentines Day.

What happened to the race?

February 14, 2006

My dad has been back since Saturday night, a lot earlier then expected? Yeah? there were serious problems during the race. My dad was on this Clipper Around the World Yacht Race, sailing the leg from perth to Singapore, Singapore to Qingdao China. It gets pretty tough towards China, sailing upwind all the way, so the boat does get quite a beating.

Somewhere near the Philippines, majority of the fleet were experiencing major problems?to put it simply, these made-in-china boats were falling apart! The boat Glasgow, had a frightening experience, there was a huge gap at the keel and water was filling the yacht at around 10 tones of water a day. They had a generator pump drawing out the water, but even that wasn?t effective, crew had to take turns to hand pump the water out. All crew were in their lifejackets for days till they reached nearest land in Subic Bay Philippines, in event the keel breaks off, they only have about 2 minutes before the boat?fills with water. They were so relieved to see the Qingdao team, but then Qingdao?s engine died, so Singapore was called out to turn back to escort and tow them back.

I was SOOooooOOoooo worried when I got a phone call informing me about the problems the fleet was facing. Thank goodness the Uniquely Singapore boat had small keel problems. So the situation now? Engineers and experts have been flown into Subic bay to access and repair damage. The race has been put back by at least a month to allow for repairs?and that means?the end of the race for my dad. Poor dude didn?t get to see the finish line?. But still, I?m very VERY proud of him. Good on ya mate!

Boys will be boys

Heard sonic booms, and radio commands from my room.

My dad playing flight simulator on his new desktop computer at 11:40pm!

Just look at the concentration on that guy’s face!

And check out his ‘Zebra Zorro’ foot tan he got from wearing sandals on the boat during the Clipper race! HAhahHAhahha…tell you about his race on the next post!

Bukit Timah with the ickle-pocketrocket and the Android

February 12, 2006

Been going to Bukit Timah?on the?weekends with Wayne, and finally… the Orangela has been Bukitimised! The works - mud, dirt, grease, water, sand, leaves, insects. Please note this is the one and only time i’ll use the name Orangela.. my BIKE HAS no name, and even if it did, it ain’t going to be Orangela wayne!!!!

Big thanks to Wayne, who chose to start me off?on a hard route! YOU CRAZY NUT! Should have taken me to something easy first like Mandai or something…but nooooo….he threw straight into the massive downhills and uphills. Janice gave me alot of pointers, like how to tackle the slopes without killing myself, and giving me a easy line to follow. And today, ‘the droid’ teaching me how to go over roots, and uphills. Joshua, for his patience, understanding and for letting us use his red “ferrari”(van) as bike-taxi.

Honestly, i got into mountain biking for 2 reason, to get in shape, and share Wayne’s love for this hobby, never realised i actually could have so much fun with it too. And you’re right, you ALL have created a MONSTER! MUAHahahHAhaha??

Had a great saturday?morning ride with Wayne, Janice and Andrew. New scratches and bruises, but who cares, i’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, proud of those ‘battlescars’. After the ride, we headed down to Ghim Moh Hawker Centre for some grub. porraige for me and wayne had a Thosai, plus a plate of carrot cake to share. So weird how we eat so much more after exercise.

Biking again tomorrow morning!

Especially the fat tip ballpoint pens! Hmmm…… how sad, i’m obsessed with Coffee and Stationery!

Illy… oh illy!

February 8, 2006

I truly believe that illy is one of the best coffee in the world, maybe second to Merchant Coffee Espresso beans. It’s 100% Arabica, and packaged in a pressurised can to maintain freshness.?The can opens like a can or fruit cocktail, the minute you puncture a hole… ‘WHoooooOOooooshhhhhhh’ this jet of compressed air shoots out of the can, bursting with the?aroma of illy coffee. I wish i could open a can of coffee EVERYDAY!
