My dad…the Birthday Nazi
April 7, 2006
So it’s my mum’s birthday tomorrow, but since she had to fly off early, we celebrated her special day on wednesday night. And just like every other birthday, the birthday nazi strikes again. I cooked dinner, and my sister bought my mum’s favourite coffeebean & tea leaf cheesecake.
The birthday nazi kept “herding”?us for a?birthday toast then?into the dining room for dinner. We then adjorned to the living room for cake. After blowing out the candles, my dad proceeds to give her the “surprise” present. Well i say “surprise”, because this is how the story goes…
My dad is a gadget-freak, so everytime he gets something, he doesn’t tell anyone and enjoys it all to himself, his guilty pleasure for sure. So when i was looking for envelopes last week, my eyes came across a green box! it was the OSIM Uzap, so for a giggle, i told my mum i found daddy’s new gadget! So when he came home that night, we sang “Zap zap tummy! Zap zap tummy! Zap zap tummy!”
Then he goes on to say “YOU TWIT, you just spoilt mummy’s birthday surprise!!!!!” ……Whoops…

So anyway, he wraps the present in a black plastic bag, with a ribbon made out of masking tape. If you knew my dad, you’d know that’s typical of him.

So for pictures’ sake, mummy pretended to look surprise! And soon, my dad takes the present out of her hand, hooked it up and tried it on first. HAhahaha… It’s not even his present, but he HAS to use it first.

So then he proceeds to strap my mum in and “electrocute” her (pictured) tehehehe… Then it came to our pressie. While she was unwrapping her present, we all heard someone’s phone ringing.
*ring ring* “Mummy isn’t that your phone” *ring ring*
So she goes to pick up her phonecall, and WhoAH! what do we have here!!! it’s her ringtone… BUT NOT HER PHONE!
We all bought her a new handphone. hehehe… wasn’t that sneaky? The wrapped box was to throw her off, and we got kevin to secretly call my mum’s number while she was unwrapping. And i searched all day to find her ringtone from her old “hand-me-down” handphone. (Which by the way is the Do-Mi-So tone not available on new Nokias)

“who’s calling you mummy?”
My dad actually called her, just to “test” her new phone. So weird lah two of them, they were having a good 3minute conversation standing 2 metres apart!
So if it’s your birthday
1. Don’t expect to eat at your own timing
2. Expect your candles to be blown our before you had the chance
3. Don’t expect to try your present first
4. There may be a chance you don’t even get to unwrap it yourself!
Happy Birthday Mummy!

Haha…that’s cute!
I just thought it interesting that mothers somehow always end up getting the hand-me-down phones…lol

Shaun: My poor mum always gets hand me downs for everything. She would wear the tshirts with horrid designs, shorts that can’t we’ve grown out of, handphones, and at the dinner table, she will always take the not so tasty bits, so that we get it. She’s a real angel… really.

Aaawww, that’s so sweet
My Mum is somehow similar to yours. Never thinks about getting new stuffs for herself and just happy to get the hand-me-downs. Don’t we love our Mums heaps? :p

From the pic its looks like ya dad wrap the present with the black trash bag and hold it together with 2 rubber bands lol
My family has a lot of hand-me-down stuffs and it was a nightmare when we shifted but my parents simply refuse to throw them away but yet wanna complaint about having too many things to unpack

kuen: omg, he better not be reading this, its just going to fuel the ongoing bad jokes and silly antics.
joanna: oh yes! definitely. He thought it was amusing…
gina: oh dear, you wouldn’t want a kid like me really…. well at least not a teenager like me. My rebel days were long and difficult for my mum. My sister probably only lasted 1 yr in that stage, my rebel stage lasted YeaRS!
Spelling Nazi: Ok, i’ll definitely pay more attention in future posts. Thanks.

That is way too cute and funny. Your dad sounds like such a character. I especially love the wrapping of the “surprise”.
So did your mum like the prezzie after all?
You guys are sweet for giving her a new phone. I guess gadget was the theme for this birthday!
