First Interview

May 5, 2006

Today, finally, i’ve got time to scratch the blogging itch. Shock horror, I went for my first ever interview on wednesday morning! Can’t say where, just because i don’t want to jinx anything. I was thrilled it took place at a cafe rather than a stiff business setting - desk, big boss office chair, boardroom. For of all, it was less intimidating, and secondly, i had a nice hot cup of latte to calm me down. I hope i came across well, honest to my personality, and made a significant impression.

The way i see it may come across arrogant, don’t judge me on this, but i hope you see it as confidence. I have alot to offer a company, and its such a shame the others didn’t call me up for an interview. Because if they just gave me that opportunity, just to sit down and talk to them, i’m sure they won’t regret it.

The night before D-day, i was freakin out, running all the different sorts of scenarios in my head - “what if she decides to test me”, “will i freeze up”, “what if my breath stinks”, “omg! what if my pants rip!”

Anyway…whether it went well or not, for the rest of my life, i’ll still remember my FIRST interview.

  1. you go girl!

you know, guess its always good to run the different scenarios in your head b4 the interview… kinda gets you “prepared” should they ask you something you’ve already asked yourself… haha does it make sense!? and yes, the testing-the-candidate-during-interview is always scary… once, someone interviewed me and asked me to respond in chinese just to test my efficency in it… i just sat slumped in the chair…

  2. i’m sure you did fine! your pants didn’t rip, your breath didn’t stink (it probably only smelled of the latte anyway!) and you’re in one piece!
    *cross fingers*

  3. Oh, I remember my first interview… It was a success until the lady rejected me after knowing that I was not an Australian PR (it was done in Melbourne). Hehe…

    Good luck, Angela!

  5. hey angie, keepin’ my fingers crossed for ya. i am sure it went well. keep thinking in the mindframe that you have a lot to offer the company. the ones that didn’t ask you for the interview? it’s their loss.

  15. Heheh. It always works to be an over-confident arsehole during interviews. It works for me.

At one intern interview I said “I don’t want to be picking out the blue m&ms from the pack for the boss, i want to do real work. I’m not here to be the coffee girl either.”

    and i aced it.

oohhh if only my butterflies will calm down a bit so i can at least get a good night sleep before my first day…

  19. sam: well my mandarin isn’t that fantastic either, conversational chinese yes, but don’t expect me to write a report! i’d probably take the whole day!

debbs: lesson learnt, don’t drink coffee a few hours before your second interview…my hands were shaking!?!

sisilia: don’t think i should run into any problems being a singapore PR. Well nvm, you’re here, you’ve got a job, can’t complain right :)

cas: tell me about it, well you learn from mistakes. And i definately took alot from that interview.

ja & jo: the pants ripping could happen! im sure there’s worse things… lets see.. passing gas by accident, snneezing in her coffee, tripping over myself cofffee in hand.

farah, michie, lisa: thanks for your support!

Aresha: AHhahaah that’s so you to say that! You’re a no bull-sh*t kinda girl!

stella: Its worse than performing for a school play. Its not good anticipation, its nervous damage control sort of anticipation.

gina: well said, and i do believe in that saying. thanks for the reminder.
