The BIG news

September 2, 2006

I’ve been putting this post aside for awhile, was still contemplating on the consequences of it all. Should I blog about work or not? A lot of friends and family have asked me if I found a job…and I guess after explaining yourself 30 times, all you feel like saying is… “Yes”.

So for the benefit of those who don’t know, I started work in May/June at Ogilvy Public Relations as a PR Associate. “Holy Guacamole!” why didn’t I go into Economics where the moolah is? Government, Banking, Finance, Trading, Broking?!!! Coz my degree IS in economics? Well plain and simple, I’ve realized that economics wasn’t my calling.

It’s been great for the past 3 months; I came in knowing I had 2 friends in the building, Penny and Nick and I must thank them both for giving me prep work for my interview, and of course the moral support.

Everyday, i come into work, and at 9 on the dot, my phone’s caller id will flash – PENELOPE PEREIRA. I pick up the phone and on the other end penny goes “Shall we?” and I’ll go “OK!” Every morning, we’ll go down to the Ya Kun Kaya Toast for our usual.

“Auntie, our usual”
“1 teh bing, 1 teh siew tai big cup da bao!”

I’d just like to recap my first day here, i woke up, power dressed myself in a shirt, pants and killer heels. And those heels were really KILLER HEELS, coz they gave me blisters every single time i wore the.i never learn my lesson, i always hope shoes stretch in time… Check out the damage below. I’ve since then have thrown away those pair of shoes, and invested in new ones from Topshop and Zara.

More about work in another post…for now…time to go mountain biking!

  1. :| Nasty! I haven’t had those in quite a while. Digress a little, i just came home from Comex, bought a Sandisk U3 flashdrive, insert it and turned into a nightmare. The PC wasn’t detecting the drive, click on My Computer and nothing display with the window frozen. Now i have to reformat my C drive no thanks to those guys. So think twice about buying a U3 flashdrive or use it on your friend’s PC and uninstall the U3 launchpad! Sorry Angela, i really need to warn!!!

  2. i feel so clever for guessing right. Anyway, I’m sure you love it where you are. I hear a ton of good things about the company and if you ever think of moving laterally, remember what I told you about that certain *ahem* company. :)

  7. Kuen: thanks for that… pretty scary… i don’t know what i’ll do without my computer and all the files in in.

cheryl: SHoo Cleberrr…. HAhahahAhA its been great so far. :) learning alot

michie: i do, but i guess flats look a bit casual sometimes. so it depends if i’m seeing a client or not :)

shaun: so raw, and when you shower, it stings!!!!!

  8. Gen: i won’t deny it, yes, i don’t think i have an extensive vocabulary, but it doesn’t stop me from trying. A blog entry is not an essay or a press release, so i don’t really pay attention to “flowering” the writting up. It’s facts, information, thoughts.

Somtimes it involves copywriting.. like your sentence “doesn’t a pr associate needs to be strong in english?” it should be need not needs.

i won’t say i’m great at english, but i cope, and i work hard. Just answering your question. No offence.

  9. rc: its quite cool, the whole Ogilvy family is under one roof, so i’m surrounded by creative people all the time. It’s fun, but hardwork too. High expectations in an agency like that.

  12. Yikes, those blisters look painful! Here’s what i do… i usually wear ballet flats to work and leave 2 pairs of heels at work. When i get to my desk, i switched to my oh-so-gorgeous heels :) Another thing you can do really is get this really thick blister prevention plasters, i don’t know if you have them in Singapore but it’s available in Brisbane and it’s fantastic! The only drawback is the price :(

  14. Tracy: they were quite raw… i’m so use to wearing slippers, any shoe i wear gives me blisters and toe aches. Blister prevention plaster….. i used one before, but beause it was gel based, it actually created a blister coz the plaster was moist. maybe i should try a diff brand

    cheryl: thanks darlin!
