Mountain Biking - 24 September

September 29, 2006

Biking on Sunday was really relaxed, we took our time, chit chatted midway, spent time actually taking notice of our surroundings. By the time we got back to the carpark, our legs just refused to work anymore. They’ve been punished the day before on the ride with the triple As’.

Of course i was in denial, the weekends are the only time i have to work out! And seeing that i have put back on my Oz chubs, i forced myself to do a time trial loop. Half way through the 2nd downhill, my left foot wasn’t clipping in.

The whole cleat got stuck in the eggbeater! and off my shoe! How the hell did i do that? i have no idea…so i pushed my way backwards to the carpark…..lose…

Ride Time: 28min 02s
Distance: 6km
Calories: 464 kcal
Max HR: 196
Avg HR: 163
Avg Speed: 12.8 km/h
Max Speed: 33.2km/h

After cycling we met with the rest at Holland Village Windmill Kopitiam for some grub and ice cold desserts! Weekends are always such a joy to look forward to…

  1. Happens when the cleat is too tight. Sometimes when dirt gets stuck or if you tuned your cleats on a hot day, it will contract causing your spd to get stuck or even break the cleat of your shoe.

I remember getting a pair of shimano spd sandals to test em, and i got down to using it at a street ride. On the way to meet the dudes, i tried to stop at a traffic junction in bugis but ended up falling at the traffic light. had to take my shoe off and take the bike to the side to uncleat the thing. hahah. spd’s a killer. great fun to watch all the problems.

I never used spds in bukit timah though. better to train uphill since the main tracks are hilly. Have you tried going in @ bike and hike entry point?

  2. Hey Aresha, actually her whole cleat broke away from the shoe and got stuck on the eggbeater. So the cleat was actually stuck inside the “pedal”!

  3. Just out of curiosity, when you do your “Lizard Count”, do you mean you erm, finished off X lizards or did you mean you saw X lizards?!

HPOSNM: i mean… XXX number of lizards i saw on that day … and of course, i avoid them at all cost. Even if it means squeezing on the brakes to the point of near endoism. :)

Some of those lizards really don’t care for their life… they just lay there, soaking in the sun, chillin in the middle of the bike path. AHhahhaha

  5. Aresha: That happened to me before… i was climbing up the first hill and i lost balance, clipped in, and landed on something stinky pooey!

  6. Wayne: lol.. that must have been a funny one.. hopefully you can salvage the cleat and epoxy it back on. lol. if her eggb’s had a cage over it then it wouldnt have been so bad. The pictures make me miss the days of riding with a good bunch of friends + the big meals at the end. Now i’ve just become an aussie fatty over the past 3 years! lol. I’ll probably collapse with heatstroke after 5 minutes.

Angela: Your lizard count is cute! BT is famous for the ‘biawak’ blackish lizards. If you provoke them they’ll come running after you. Back then, the boys used to advise me to bring an extra handle bar to fend them off. And there was once in a strange DH track in sembawang where I rode over a big snake without realising it. hurhurhur. I also picked up a gun bullet @ nee soon and got a big scolding from my dad. lol
