How to eat a Xiao Long Bao
January 30, 2007
Did you know there’s a proper way to eat a Xiao Long Bao?? On Wednesday, Auntie Wendy, my mum and i had lunch at Din Tai Fung, Paragon. And on your chopstick wrappers, there were instructions on how you should be eating your little dumplings.
How to eat a Xiao Long Bao
1. First you dip the Xiao Long Bao into the Vinegar (which you’d have already poured for yourself in a saucer)2. Place it on your chinese spoon, bite of the top bit of the Xiao Long Bao, and suck on the juices.
3. Place some ginger slices on top, and eat the rest of the Xiao Long Bao whole.
And i promise you, you’ll appreciate it a whole lot more.

Next time you eat it like that, let me know if there’s a difference.

Hee…me just went to Din Tai Fung on sat.
Sometimes i bite the side instead and let the scalding hot broth flow onto the spoon to cool a little

Marie: i agree, i could eat it everyday!
Chloe: good idea.
iwantaTibike: i burnt my tongue pretty badly the last time i put the whole thing in my mouth. I forgot how hot the broth could be.

The first time I ate it (was a kid then), I thought it was a version of char siew bao so you can imagine how badly I burnt my tongue! Didn’t dare eat it again till only a couple of years ago!
