Ketchup day

March 30, 2007

Last friday was ketchup day for me, had a nice intimate lunch with MAng at a small italian place near Amoy, where she had ketchup with her steak and fries. I don’t know why that seemed weird at the time.

In the evening, we met Danz for dinner at Ricciotti. I’m sure i’ve mentioned how much i love the food at Menotti (Raffles City) in a previous post, so it was a pleasant surprise to find out that Ricciotti is its sister company.

The promotion was fantastic, 1 bottle of wine gives you 1 free pizza. And after 8:30pm, desserts are HALF PRICE! TALK ABOUT A DEAL YOU CAN’T RESIST!

So we had 1 bottle of white, pizza, cabonara, crab pasta and a dessert EACH!

“There’s always space for desserts!”

Dirtraction’s Inaugural Race

March 29, 2007

Krankin’ at Kent Ridge, Sunday 18 March 2007, organised by Dirtraction

I took part in this years Kent Ridge race…again… i guess i never learn my lesson. This is my second race and i did ZERO training for it, besides usual weekend easy rides.

This year, we saw 128 cyclists signing up for the race, which i think is fantastic! Unfortunately, there’s always lacking participation in the women’s. I came in FOURTH……. out of FOUR! HAhahhaa….so basically i was last. But that’s ok, i’m really happy with my timing. I can confidently say i cleared all technical downhills with ease, which did help me catch up with the girls, but what totally killed me was those two killer climbs!!!

My Time: 0:49:56
0:02:47 behind the next rider

I reckon i should seriously train before races like this, i nearly killed myself krankin up “heartbreak hill”.

b) SMALL LOOP (Boys & Girls DIV A & B) 1.6km BLUE

To all the ladies who were brave enough to tackle Kent Ridge, Athena, Cheng Yin and Wendy, you rock! WE rock!

And of course to the race organisers Dirtraction for a fantastic job building, rebuilding, and maintaining the trails.

UWC Pride

March 29, 2007

Socially, my time at the United World College of South East Asia was a nightmare, but i’ve always stood by my school when it came to the quality of the academic and extra-curricular activities they provided.

The GCSEs and IB (International Baccalaureate) qualifications were top notch programmes, and pairing that with the best teachers in Singapore, i wasn’t surprised when the kids debating on The Arena took the Grand prize in the finals.

Tuesday night i watched Hwa Chong Institution get their ass kicked by United World College, and it was prevalent from the first round that they were in a league of their own. ANyways… back to work… i have 4 drafts here that i haven’t had time to post…. check back soon!

He had to email me

March 29, 2007

Wayne has been trying to get me the whole day, but i have been so busy with work, i ate lunch in a record 4mins! Good if i was taking part in an adventure race, but not when im sitting in front of the comp all day, and in turn leaving me in tummy stitches.

i replied to Wayne:
“Im having a bad day love. Will explain later…

Sigh…..

P.s. I need a hug.”

Sometimes… all you need is a hug. No words spoken, just a hug. If i were in Perth right now, i’d do what i always love to do, drive down to the foreshore, sit and dangle my legs at the edge, and watch the Swans glide by.

Paintball Palettes

March 22, 2007

The girls were given the guns with the larger palettes, the boys had the heavier guns with the orange ones filled in their magazine. Just to give you a better idea of the palette sizes, here’s a picture I took next to a dollar coin.

I See Fragged People!

March 21, 2007

Next acitivity of the weekend, was PAINTBALL! Apparently there are a couple of places in Singapore you can try this sport, Tag Paintball at Orchid Country Club and Crossfire at the Singapore Discovery Centre. We went to the latter.

I thought they were going to provide overalls, so i rocked up in a tank top and berms. Luckily Wayne brought a long sleeve shirt for me to wear, but then again, it didn’t do much good. But i LOOKED the part?! “Fwah So GAranG!”

The most important part of the day for them, the indemnity forms, they were quick to get that signed off before we were briefed on the Dos and the Don’ts.

When it was time to split the group into two teams, i insisted that Wayne should not be on mine. It makes it more interesting! i already KNOW we would make a good team, so lets spice things up a bit. After getting into the arena, you’re allowed a minute to recce the site, before you are geared up and armed.

Of all gun models out there, they armed us with THE weapon of choice…Carbine BAYYBBeeee. In counter stike, that was my favourite weapon, plus i excelled at it (HEADSHOT!) So i was determined to do just as well in paintball.

Scenarios
Burst the Balloon x2 rounds
Flags x2 rounds
Elimination x2 rounds

I reckon i did ok, because Wayne got ZERO shots of me, and i hit him twice on the chest. “Hurts right? Hurts right?! That’s how it will feel if i break your heart, just ten times worse! Muahahhaha”.
In all honesty, it isn’t that painful. You will bruise, yes, but what’s a bruise?! It goes away!…..eventually….. who cares, its worth it!

Buckaroos

March 20, 2007

i had such an eventful weekend, it feels like i’ve been on the go since work ended on friday evening! After work, Wayne picked me up and we headed faaaar north to Buckaroo BBQ & Grill. It’s a quite a distance to drive, but the food was well worth it. Buckaroos was converted from a private house into a roadhouse restaurant. It’s quite out of the way, so i suggest you drive there instead of trying to find your way by public transport.

Wayne ordered a Sirloin steak + stella beer, i ordered fish & chips + strawberry magarita, and it only came up to 60bucks. I thought that was pretty good value, for the American portion size we were served.

Although the car ride was long, it didn’t matter… we were singing, dancing, bopping our heads, it was just great being out with my best friend! Simple itinery but still mountains of fun!

If you’d like to check out Buckaroos fantastic BBQ & Grill food and drinks, here’s their address:

Lighting up Singapore

March 15, 2007

Wayne and i were passing by the URA Centre after lunch, dripping with sweat after a hot lunch at Maxwell, we decided to walk through the aircon building instead of the walkway outside.

There was an exhibition on the ground floor, where they showcased the design concepts for Orchard Road, Singapore River, Bras Basah, Bugis, Central Business District (CBD) and Marina Bay.

There was a huge 3D map of Singapore, detailed down to major buildings and houses.

i found mine!! We’re a little square box on that map.

Go HERE to see more on the lighting plan

Or go down to the URA Centre before they take down the exhibit.

Penguins die from mystery illness at Gold Coast

March 14, 2007

Penns forwarded this article to me while i was out at lunch. So tragic! THe other 12 Pingus must have been devastated seeing their friends and family drop like flies.

Which reminds me, i want to watch the March of the Penguins, got to find someone with the DVD.

12:15PM Wednesday March 14, 2007
BRISBANE - More than two dozen penguins have died at the Sea World theme park on the Gold Coast.

The penguins became ill on Thursday last week and, by the weekend, 25 of the 37 sick birds were dead, Sea World said in a statement.

The surviving penguins had been isolated while vets continued their investigations into the cause of the deaths.

But Department of Primary Industries general manager of animal biosecurity Ron Glanville said today disease had been ruled out.

“We don’t believe there is any other threat to animals at Sea World at this stage,” he told ABC Radio.

“It does not appear to be an infectious cause that is going on so we don’t believe there is a problem in terms of a threat to other animals or the public.”

Sea World’s manager of marine sciences Steve McCourt told the Courier-Mail newspaper today he suspected the deaths were caused by a load of contaminated gravel placed in the bird’s enclosure as part of three-monthly maintenance.

“All the staff here are absolutely devastated about this,” Mr McCourt said.

“We think there is some sort of toxin in the gravel.”

Sea World first took samples to a private laboratory and then called in personnel from the newly-established Biosecurity Queensland, which worked on Monday night to clear up fears of bird flu.
Biosecurity Queensland principal veterinary officer Ian Douglas said tests for bird flu were negative.
“It’s a bit too early to speculate what’s happened,” he said.

“But in the veterinary world, it’s not unusual to get a large number of animals affected at the one time.

“If one is exposed to a toxin then often they all are and you get large crashes.”

Dr Douglas said he had never seen a similar occurrence with penguins.

I loved how my hair looked then, and im contemplating the chop. It’s taken me 3 years to grow this mane… should i wait a bit longer before i snip it all off? I’m dying for a change….. some way or another.

About our UWC social circle

March 9, 2007

Me and my sister went to the same international school here. By sec 3, we moved out of the local system into United World College of SEA. So we had alot of stories to share of our school days and the topic today was on social circles…where we hung out, who we mixed with, where we had lunch… so it was quite funny when i told her about the social hierarchy during my time there.

Georgie says:
so there are rankings?

Angela (安琪儿) says:
Ok let me explain:

There’s the Loser groups, Hutters group, The Tables group.

Losers are nomads, we have no permanent place to eat, study, chit chat…so most of the time, we’re left with the canteen. Seat turnover was high, therefore the higher possibility of getting a chair to sit on.

The hutters are the mid popular bunch, not exactly cool enough, but they get along well in their cliquey group. They hang out at the tables with the straw roofs, hence the name hutters.

Then there’s the popular group called “THE TABLES“…altogether now “OOooooo”

Georgie says:
hehehe

Angela (安琪儿) says:
So those are the groups…i’m in the “canteener” loser group

Georgie says:
…….i believe i was in the invisible group

Angela (安琪儿) says:
MUAHAHAHHAAHhahaAhahAHA AHAHHAHaHHAa

i love my sister! And i love being around her coz she’s the funniest person i know!

Tremors felt around Singapore, some buildings evacuated
06 March 2007 1214 hrs

Singapore’s Meteorological Services Division says an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter Scale struck Padang, Indonesia at about 11.50am.

The epicentre is 50 kilometres north-northeast of Padang, on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia AND some 430 kilometres south-west of Singapore.

Tremors were also felt in many parts of Singapore.

Callers to the MediaCorp News Hotline say they felt tremors in areas such as Beach Road, Jalan Besar, Robinson Road and Toa Payoh.

Some buildings, like the Concourse at Beach Road, Capital Square and Centennial Tower in the city, and even Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Clementi, were evacuated.

Witnesses say several tall buildings in the central business district swayed slightly.

Body Parts Mistakenly delivered to family’s home

March 5, 2007

How could the delivery go soooooo wrong? Aren’t these sort of deliveries on priority delivery or something?

March 5, 2007 - 11:11AM

Two packages containing human body parts - including a liver and a partial head - and were delivered to a United States family home instead of a lab.

Officials say more than two dozen similar packages could be dispersed across the United States.
The body parts, sent from China, were mistakenly dropped off at Franck and Ludivine Larmande’s home by a driver who thought the bubble-wrapped items were pieces to a table.

“My husband started to unwrap one and said, ‘This is strange, it looks like a liver,”‘ Ludivine Larmande told The Grand Rapids Press. “He started the second one, but stopped as soon as we saw the ear.”

The body parts - which are preserved - were for medical research, police say.
