My inauguration at the Prime Society

October 8, 2007

About three Sundays ago, the Pereiras (and 1 Gray) ventured to the west for some grub at the cluster of restaurants on Dempsey Hill. We were supposed to check out this new restaurant called jones the grocer, but it was not meant to be. They weren’t open yet.

So we ended up at the Prime Society.

You know, i love gimmicks, I’m a real sucker for cheesy humour and clever thingamabobs, but i think the restaurant went a bit overboard when they wrote this:

The Prime Society Districtus Commandments
1. Thou shalt not consume inferior cuts
2. Thou shalt honour thy meat with the finest wines
3. Thou shalt not share thy meat
4. Thou shalt not steal thy neighbour’s meat
5. Thou shalt not dishonour thy meat by ordering well done
6. Thou shalt gaze lovingly at meat before attacking
7. Thou shalt love and respect thy meat
8. Thou shalt not have a vegetarian friend
9. Thou shalt not be distracted by conversation
10. Thou shalt not leave room for dessert

Ok so i broke commandments 2,3,4,9,10

Lets do a rating on the different elements:
Decor: 4.5/5
Loved the high ceilings, black wood beams and the artistic light fixture above the bar

Ambience: 3/5
A bit noisy, and i wasn’t sure what the dress code was. Slippers, singlets, shorts?

Menu: 2/5
There isn’t much choice for non-steak eaters. I know it’s a steakhouse, but i would have expected more chicken, fish, and bigger salads. The Prime Ceaser salad, was just…ceaser salad. It sounded like there should be a few slices of beef or chicken on top.

Food: 2.5/5
My carrots were undercooked, Wayne’s medium was the same as my medium well.

Service: 3.5/5
Our water wasn’t topped up regularly, and waiters were not exactly sure of the ingredients in their dishes

So if you’d like to still visit the restaurant, here’s the address.

  1. I practically broke all the commandments. I might not even be allowed to enter :P I love my steak well done heh! One thing to note is never offend the waiter or chef, else refrain from consuming the food there or ever visit it again until they forget how you look.

  4. prime society cannot get their steak right. quite a shame cos of tht whole ’shall not dishonour thy meat’ thing. I’ve got an answer to almost every commandment on my blog.

anyways.. I did email you about the icee thing. if you replied, gmail might have filtered it.. cos I subscribe to your blog yet never got any updates. So.. do they sell ICEE of is it there only for members?? You can reply here.. I’ll check.

  6. Keith, i don’t mind yesterday’s as long as its edible and also not someone else’s leftover!

  7. kuen.. you never know. :p
I dunno how much of it is true anyway.. what I know, I learnt it in Kitchen Confidential.

  8. Keith, i heard it too. Sometimes they drop the food on the floor and then they pick it up and serve it. So not only u can’t offend them, you better be nice to them, so they may still wash it before serving u hah.

  9. My friend doesn’t like that place. The last time she went there, a garden mouse was running around and no one did anything about it. On top of that, she felt that the food was only so-so.

  10. joan: i won’t be surprised….. a cat walked in half way through dinner, and refused to leave. they had to close the doors, and it just stood there waiting. And because they closed the doors, the cooking fumes just engulfed the diners!! urgh *cough cough*
