Not quite right…

January 29, 2008

Everytime I go to work and walk into the lift, I face this strange looking mural at the lobby. I remember quite a few kids painting these pictures just before Christmas, and I’m just a bit concerned with the figure the kid drew on the right? What instrument is he playing with?

Scott Mills walks with me to work everyday

January 23, 2008

I started listening to Scott Mills last year, I loved it so much I recommended the podcast to my sister and now she’s hooked. Wayne listens to it sometimes…and is slowly getting there.

Every day, I would sync my ipod and refrain from listening to it in bed at night. The next morning, I’ll walk to work with Scott Mills. It’s a great start to the day…the countless times I find myself laughing out loud in the MRT is just embarassing!

They have videos sometimes, here’s one of my recent favourites.
The F CUP COOKIE!

Sometimes I walk into the office laughing, and it was so sad I had no one to share the jokes with. So I told Janice about it, and now she is hooked. At least I have someone to laugh with. And apparently Janice has got Joanne and Andrew loving it too!

Just spreading the love.
Go to the BBC Radio Scott Mills site and look for the link to download the podcast.

He makes Singapore radio sound crap in comparison!!!!! After listening to bbc radio… radio here is just painful to listen to.

The trio: Scott, Chappers, Laura + the one that doesn’t speak

It’s never a grey day with these guys. Trust me. Tune in.

Best Movie Mistakes

January 18, 2008

Stmbled upon a interesting site today, it rates the best movie mistakes.

My favourite was one in Star Wars
When the stormtroopers break into the control room, the stormtrooper on the right of the screen hits his head on the door frame. On the DVD release they’ve added a thump when he hits it.

La Strada

January 10, 2008

I had a great catch up session with Dru on Saturday night. We had dinner at La Strada, this fantastic modern Italian restaurant next to Les Amis at Shaw Centre.

Appetiser
Beef carpaccio
four rolled-up cylinders of raw beef in ascending heights. Each cylinder filled with a celeriac remoulade and topped with a shaving of truffle and parmesan cheese.

Mains
Spaghetti Alla Chitarra Con salsa Carbonara Tartufata
Hand made spaghetti with Spanish ham, truffle butter, parmesan and confit egg

Tagliolini al granchio
Fresh hand cut pasta with mud crab, garlic, chilli, white wine and extra virgin olive oil sauce

Coupled with a glass of wine, it couldn’t get any better than this.

Décor: 4.5/5
Chairs weren’t exactly comfortable, plus, the chair’s design has a hole at the back, so I couldn’t put my handbag behind.

Ambience: 3.5/5
Between the taxi honking right next to us, and the slightly rowdy diners behind us, I don’t know which is worse. But what do you expect, we sat al fresco.

Menu: 5/5
Menu has enough items to please every single taste bud!

Food: 4/5
My cabonara was fantastic, unfortunately Dru’s mud crab was a bit disappointing and tasteless in comparison. So I’ll have to give a 4.

Service: 5/5
Friendly and helpful with food suggestions.

Overall I’d give a 4/5.

Damn these resolutions

January 8, 2008

At every NYE, usually an hour before the clock strikes 12, Wayne and I reflect on the resolutions we made for that year. And so far, out of the 5 new years we’ve gone through, all were not fulfilled.

For the sake of it, here’s my 2008 resolutions:

1. Attempt the 1 ft drop at Gangsa (COMPLETED)
2. Attempt the 3 ft drop at Gangsa
3. Attempt the 5 ft drop at Gangsa
4. Blog more often (I currently have 20 posts in drafts which i just haven’t got round to clearing. 20 posts!?!)
5. Spend more time with the family
6. Go to the driving range more often
7. Run more often
8. Charity engagement
9. Time management

and oh yeah how can any girl forget
10. Lose weight

At least I got number 1 out of the way.

Happy 2008 everyone! To good health, happiness and all the rest of the crap that usually goes along with this sentence.

1 post down, 19 to go!

Guitar Hero

January 7, 2008

My name is Angela, and I am addicted to Guitar Hero.

Since we were all in ROCKER mode, we decided to take some rocker shots. Ok this is embarrassing, but only after 5mins did Wayne tell us we’re doing the wrong hand sign! Instead of the horns/devil hand sign, we were doing the “I love you” sign. Lose…

Ok! How embarrassing! At least we got this one right!

It’s so addictive Wayne comes over every other day, just so we can unlock more songs. We have currently finished medium level on Guitar Hero 1 and 2.

And as much as Wayne hates to admit it, I’m better than him at Guitar Hero too.

1 ft closer to my New Years’ resolution

January 5, 2008

I made quite a few resolutions just before the turn of the new year, and one of them was to do a 5 ft drop at Gangsa. It sounds pretty ridiculous now, but if I don’t set the bar high, I won’t push myself.

Today, I’m proud to be one step closer to achieving that. I am clearing the 1 foot drop with ease. Now, to go a little faster, and I’ll move on to the 3 ft drop.

Raaaaaaaaaaa……

Jeremy & Melanie

January 5, 2008

I’ve known Jem for quite a while now, but it was during his last semester I got to know him alot better. He was my house mate in Perth, and my Business Process Analysis group mate. Jem was an excellent housemate, he’s neat, he cooks, brews a fantastic latte, and loves dessert. Puurrrfeeeccct!

Jem tied the knot on the 24th November 2007 at the Church of the Risen Christ, followed by dinner at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

Congratulations Jem and Mel!

This is one of my favourite t-shirts to wear, it’s comfortable, cute and a real bargain at AUS$10 from Jay Jays. I love the bicycle theme… and the fact that it’s strawberry shortcake!

Yay, Bukit Timah in 9 hours time. I’ve been waiting all week to get on my bike again.

I Am Legend

January 3, 2008

Official website HERE

The crux of it all
The trailers of this show kind of gave away what the film was going to be about. Without giving away too much, it was a monster flick which revolved around the dooms day theme that a virus is going to sweep through the earth and wipe out almost the whole human race – ala Heroes season 2! What I seriously didn’t know about was that this was a remake of an old movie.

The show starts with the cure for cancer which involves mutating the measles virus to alter the way the body deals with fighting against cancer. This cure however mutates and causes an air borne virus which causes humans as well as animals to become vampires-ish where their skin becomes sensitive to UV rays. Without giving too much away of the film…. Fast forward to an age (2012) where almost 90% of the world has been exterminated by the virus or eaten by the infected, we have Will Smith LTC Robert Neville – who is immune to the deadly virus – driving through a deserted New York city hunting deer in his Ford Mustang with his pet dog companion Samantha. He basically goes through his daily routines of watching taped news telecasts and talking to mannequins that he places around town to “keep him sane” in a city devoid of any life.

He stays in a fully fortified apartment block with a laboratory at the bottom for his numerous testing. Part of his devotion is to finding the cure for this virus which he uses a serum from his own blood. He also spends the rest of his days going to the DVD stall to watch movies and sends out radio broadcasts at midday to any survivors who might still be out there. The plot thickens when he captures an infected woman and runs tests on her to see if his cures are working. An infected man – presumably the leader of the infected – stands in the dark doorway watching as the women is captured and taken away. This is as far as I will go as to how the story progresses…

The verdict
I would give this movie 3.5 stars out of 5 for the good acting of Will Smith as well as the thrill and scare factor of the film. The story and character development was good – although this one has been a total adventure away from the original movie story line which I read about. CG was ok with the infected a bit computerized for my liking.

Personally, I think if more characters were introduced earlier on in the movie to compliment Robert Nevilles struggles in New York, it would have added a bit more bite to the ending with their combined struggles. A friend told me that he couldn’t believe that this film was only rated PG and I agree that it should have a more restricted rating as it could be a bit disturbing for the younger viewers. I can vouch for that cos I was seriously spooked when I got home to see my dog waiting at the door for me and was afraid to sleep with the lights off.
