La Strada

January 10th, 2008

I had a great catch up session with Dru on Saturday night. We had dinner at La Strada, this fantastic modern Italian restaurant next to Les Amis at Shaw Centre.

Appetiser
Beef carpaccio
four rolled-up cylinders of raw beef in ascending heights. Each cylinder filled with a celeriac remoulade and topped with a shaving of truffle and parmesan cheese.

Mains
Spaghetti Alla Chitarra Con salsa Carbonara Tartufata
Hand made spaghetti with Spanish ham, truffle butter, parmesan and confit egg

Tagliolini al granchio
Fresh hand cut pasta with mud crab, garlic, chilli, white wine and extra virgin olive oil sauce

Coupled with a glass of wine, it couldn’t get any better than this.

Décor: 4.5/5
Chairs weren’t exactly comfortable, plus, the chair’s design has a hole at the back, so I couldn’t put my handbag behind.

Ambience: 3.5/5
Between the taxi honking right next to us, and the slightly rowdy diners behind us, I don’t know which is worse. But what do you expect, we sat al fresco.

Menu: 5/5
Menu has enough items to please every single taste bud!

Food: 4/5
My cabonara was fantastic, unfortunately Dru’s mud crab was a bit disappointing and tasteless in comparison. So I’ll have to give a 4.

Service: 5/5
Friendly and helpful with food suggestions.

Overall I’d give a 4/5.
