F1 Fever

September 26, 2008

Last Saturday, before the chaos began, my dad gave me and my mum a private tour around the F1 HQ at Marina Bay.

The pits are right next to the Singapore Flyer.

We got to take a look at the control room where you can see every camera on the circuit.

Of course, a Father - daughter shot.

Check out the media centre!

My dad is a volunteer at this year’s race. He is a senior race appointment holder holding a deputy posts as Race secretariat. Don’t ask me what his job entails, something to do with the race marshals and issuing things to the race drivers.

The only thing that bugs me about this whole thing is the perks of being a volunteer, or shall i say LACK of perks. My dad wasn’t given any free tickets to the race! As one of the two senior volunteer positions, you would think they’d give you a pair? Nope. None.

He has burnt so many weekends for the work he has done, i just think they shouldn’t be so stingy. Geez, not even walk-about tickets! Well at least I got to see what he’s doing this weekend.

I’m suddenly getting all excited about this weekend!

This year, its the first time a handbook was created for marshals. The 136-page Marshals Handbook, details safety tips, flag signals and other guidelines for race marshals. Here’s the Straits Times article, didn’t bother with the zaobao, today and business times one.

I’m so proud of him.

Grid Girls geared for disaster

September 25, 2008

I’m asking for trouble posting this on my blog, but seriously, I needed to bring this up for debate.

Are these girls a representation of Singapore’s brains and beauty? I just find it quite embarrassing. I understand we don’t have large pool to choose from, but I just don’t believe there aren’t better girls out there? The calibre of girls in the line up is far below my expectations of what an F1 grid girl should be! Look at the other Grand Prix around the world (ok maybe not malaysia).

Forgive me if I’m wrong, who knows maybe some of these girls are masters or degree holders, and i apologise if you’re friends with anyone there, but these videos are pretty bad.

The producer of these videos should be on the firing line as well. They look so amateur, most of the girls clearly looked like they were unprepared are over-prepared.
Click here to watch their videos

I’m not expecting supermodels, but at least girls who are articulate.

Airhead

September 22, 2008

This post is for my “mummy-to-be” sister.
Jie Jie, remember we were talking about this at lunch? Yes… you did tell us about it… Yes I’m sure you did…

Forgetfulness
Didn’t realize that feeling like a ditz was part of being pregnant? Here’s why you’ve suddenly become an airhead, and what you can do about it.

What it is: Pregnancy-induced brain fog, a true (and truly frustrating) hallmark of pregnancy. You may forget appointments, what you just walked into the store for, where you left your purse, whether you turned off the stove — and maybe, your phone number.

What causes it: As usual in pregnancy, it’s just your hormones having some fun, this time at the expense of your memory. And believe it or not, your brain-cell volume actually decreases during the third trimester of pregnancy (which could explain why you can’t remember what you just read about in that last paragraph). Not to worry, your brain will plump back up a few months after delivery.

What you need to know about it: First of all, pregnancy forgetfulness is completely normal — and extremely common. It’s also temporary — you’ll have total recall again long before you start to have your “senior moments.” And try not to be too hard on yourself, as stress will only cloud your brain even more.

What you can do about forgetfulness:
* Write it down. If you really need to remember something — an appointment or to take your prenatal vitamin, for example — leave a big note in an obvious place. You might also stash a notepad and pen in easy-to-remember spots like your purse, your car, and your bathroom.
* Turn high tech — using your Palm Pilot, Blackberry, laptop, or other electronic organizer to help keep you, well, organized and less forgetful.
* Reduce the number of things you need to remember — cut down on what you’re responsible for by delegating some jobs to others. Easier said than done, but worth a go. (You’ll forget about the less important stuff, anyway.)
* Have a sense of humor about this airhead stage and encourage your partner to do the same. Who cares if you left the car keys in the refrigerator?
* Forget about taking the herbal supplement gingko biloba. This “memory-booster” has not been proven safe for use during pregnancy.
* Expect the haze to hang in during the first weeks after you give birth. Fatigue may take the place of hormones as the primary culprit, but that too shall pass.

I’m too old for this

September 21, 2008

About a month ago, we decided to head over to Velvet Underground to meet some friends. Wayne met his work colleagues, while I met Dru for a couple of drinks with a few high school friends.

I had a fantastic time, but as the night grew on, I felt my energy levels drop. No vodka redbull could have saved me.

Biking Buddy returns

September 20, 2008

After a VERY long hiatus, Janice dusted off the goat and joined us for a ride at Bukit Timah Nature reserve last weekend. Albeit a short ride, it was sufficient to get her used to riding off-road again.

Circa May, 2006

September, 2008
I had my biking buddy back again.

It was fun riding with the girls, for once we weren’t outnumbered. It’s such a male dominated sport its hard to find ladies to bike with.

Jan, Waynetta, Cheryl pushing up the gnarly section near the barrier

Cheryl crankin it, and made it.

Carrying our bikes up 3 flight of steps near the end of the trail.

Jan, I’m putting this on record.

Janice has hereby promised that she will be riding off-road at least once a month starting from this month onwards.

Here’s to many more OFF-ROAD rides, this is us Doing the Angela Gray “DTAG”.

Fit and Fab

September 19, 2008

I’m getting a lot of flak from a certain client about my article, he called me up this morning to tease me on my choice of words. :)

This was for yesterday’s Straits Times supplement Mind Your Body, for a column called Fit & Fab.

Here it is, click on the picture below to read the full interview.

Doing the Angela Gray

September 17, 2008

When i first started blogging 7 years ago, I remember painstakingly editing html code to produce my little digital space I called my home(page). And 4 years ago, I started this monthly little thing called “Blursotong of the Month”, where I posted a picture of a friend or blog reader posing with their eyes squinted and tongue sticking out.

When I moved over to wordpress and got attacked by a malicious virus, my blog died with it.

Today, inspired by Karen’s “Doing the KC”, I decided to start a spin-off “Doing the Angela Gray” or DTAG.

Rules:
- You have to be in mid air when the shot is taken
- Your face has to be shown
- Please provide location and country
- Provide your url if you have one

Be creative, do it with a friend or even with props.

Here’s Me, Cheryl and Janice “Doing the Angela Gray” or DTAG over the weekend.

Go to the DTAG Facebook group and add your photos!

Don’t forget to go to Karen’s DTKC Facebook group and add your photos there too!

Max and Chi’s Retro Birthday Party

September 15, 2008

Attended a fantastic party last night, to celebrate Max and Chi’s Birthday! The theme was retro and I was uber excited to show off our little creation. The minute the theme was announced, I knew EXACTLY how Wayne and I should be dressed.

It was so hard to contain my excitement, but here it is:

Taken in the lift just before our big reveal!

Wayne’s look was absolutely hilarious and very well pulled off! And it definitely made everyone at the party laugh.

The party was fantastic, most of us were dressed in theme and that really set the mood for the whole night. Camera flashes were going off, wigs were passed around, food was great and best of all the company of friends was amazing!

Ling even planned a night walk route for us. Those who brought their lanterns lit them up and led the way from Upper East Coast road through Parbury Avenue.

Four legged friends were also invited to the party, so in total, there were 3 Jack russels, 1 Goldie and 1 Schnauzer. It was helter-skelter at the apartment, but lots and lots of love and attention for the dogs all round.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX! HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHI!

We spent less than $40 on each outfit by using old and borrowed clothes. The most expensive item would be the afro wig. Here’s how to get the Wayngela look!

Wayne’s outfit
- My Dad’s tennis shorts (truly vintage!)
- My Dad’s 50yr old Tennis racket (truly truly vintage!)
- Arnold Palmer ‘Ah Pek’ polo (OG)
- Wrist and Headbands (Far East)
- Stripped socks (adidas)
- Asics Tigers (Model’s own)
- Moustache (Far East)
- Millionaire specs (Louis Vuitton)

Angela’s outfit
- Plain white tee (Giordano)
- baby blue shorts (adidas)
- Stripped baby blue socks (my dad’s)
- Asics Tigers (Model’s own)
- Headband (Far East)
- Wristband (adidas)
- White & gold watch (adidas)
- Brunette Afro (Far East)
- Vintage specs (cotton on)
- Gold hoop earrings (Far East)

I love theme parties! Can’t wait for the next one!

Taco-licious

September 11, 2008

When Lisa was here, she took the time to prepare an authentic Taco meal one wednesday for the whole family + Trip and Yvonne. While we kept Ethan occupied, she was busy working the saucepans and oven with a fantastic spread of stuffings.

I’ve never really liked Tacos, but ever since that night, I’m a changed woman.

Check out my masterpiece stuffed with: lettuce, tomatos, kidney beans, chicken, sour cream and chedder cheese. Food Porn!
