RGPS mini-reunion

October 31, 2008

Last Saturday, my “comprehension partner” Jane organised a mini RGPS reunion at the Coffee Club Ngee Ann City.

circa 1989

circa 2008

It was great, small and intimate session, where we reminisce the past and update each other on the years lost. Can’t wait for the next one!

Watching Mr. West tonight

October 29, 2008

Wayne, Penns and I are catching Mr West tonight at the Indoor Stadium tonight, but I have fallen ill AGAIN! As much as I need to sleep, rest, recuperate, I can’t throw away S$148!

So I heard the after party is going to be at Butter, with DJ Craze spinning.

Damn!

Why must I fall sick now!

So who else is watching Mr. West tonight?

Come on, come out already!!

October 19, 2008

So my sister is currently in labour, and i’m here to provide updates to friends and family who might read my blog.

I’m in the waiting area because they don’t allow anyone else besides husbands in the room. There’s no filming either, but Kevin has a camera there with him.

We were suppose to have a Dim Sum lunch today at Red Star on Chin Swee Road. Just before we left the house, my sister called and said she might need to drop by the clinic just for a check.

So My dad, mum and I headed for lunch first while she went in for a check.

After lunch was done, Kevin says…….. SHE IS READY TO HAVE THE BABY!!

So we went home to pack our stuff (computer, books, cameras, magazines) and headed to the hospital.

So here I am, waiting for updates from Kevin. Last update, she was doing fine, they are expecting the ‘fun’ to happen later tonight. Will keep updating this blog as an when I know what’s happening.

Update: 7:10pm
Contraction more intense now. But still awhile to go. Met the doctor at the lift lobby, she said it will most likely be a 19th baby (I WIN!) Think she has gone for dinner, poor jie jie is not allowed to eat or drink, part of the process.

Update: 8:00pm
Parentals have arrived. Mumsy reading and Daddy brought his laptop to do some work.

Update: 8:16pm
SMS from Kevin: Pushing

Update: 8:50pm
Kevin came out with camera in hand. Welcome to the world Julian Wong. Healthy baby boy, 3.69kg.

Stand up!

October 18, 2008

Hi everyone, I’d like to take a moment and talk about something really important. Last night, ONE (SINGAPORE) launched the countdown clock to end world poverty by 2015, and I’m really proud to be part of their campaign this year.

My pledge is online, but I thought I’d post it here too, it’s a bit long, but I had so much to say to everyone.

My morning tea costs me a dollar, and over one billion people worldwide survive on less than that a day. I’ll be the first to admit that i take our basic necessities for granted.

On your bad days, you probably just went to bed to escape it all, but miles away one in seven people go to bed hungry at night and mothers hope for nothing more than a proper meal for their starving children.
Politicans can talk and debate all they want but where are the actions to their promises?

The world cannot afford to wait while people who lack the most basic of necessities are deprive by agendas, and the number of hungry grows day by day.

It’s time for a reality check. Although we live in a sheltered society, it doesn’t mean out charity is bound by our borders. Compared to these children we live a privileged life with food, clean drinking water and medical facilities. It’s all well and good to call for change and make suggestions.

Unfortunately, change for this world doesn’t just start from governments and decision makers; it starts with you and me.

I pledge to make a difference.

Be part of the ONE (SINGAPORE) countdown clock.

To Stand Up just submit a picture of yourself holding a number 0-9. You will become the countdown to 2015. The ONE (SINGAPORE) countdown clock will show world leaders exactly how long they have left - person by person, second by second, one by one - to Make Poverty History.

You can do this right now at www.standup.sg
Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty is an international event co-organised by the UN Millennium Campaign and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty. We hope for ONE percent of the world population to Stand Up and call for a world without poverty. As Nelson Mandela says: ‘like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.’

Huh Hump?

October 15, 2008

A friend emailed me this morning
“Happy Hump Day”!

Me, being the illiterate I am, had to check on Urban dictionary just to double check it wasn’t an inappropriate comment.

Hump day
Wednesday, the middle of a work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week. The middle of the week, implying that you have to get “over the hump” before you can anticipate the weekend. The term was not originally intended to carry a second, more risqué meaning.

If that’s the case…

Redbull F1 Party

October 14, 2008

Angela is fashionably late again with the postings.

We attended the Redbull F1 party held at Cafe Del Mar about 2 weeks back? It’s probably the busiest I’ve ever seen the place, all thanks to the great party that Daryl and his crew put together. This was the start of many late nights that followed.

With Daryl

Max & Wayne

Bumped into Joanne along the way, she was sporting this sexy outfit which I don’t have the body or courage to carry off.

DirTraction Crew

With Carl - been awhile since I last caught up with him proper

With the beautiful Melody & Randall. I had a great time catching with Melody, we chatted about everything from work to running techniques!

We were there at 8:30pm till 1:30am, enjoying the music, lion dances, fire twirlers, F1 royalty, Redbull mixed drinks and great company of friends.

Urgh i had so much redbull that night, I didn’t want to touch another can for the next week or so (Unless its Jägerbombs)

Now to catch up on the rest of the posts!!

Wow has it been one year since my first 10km run. Dang!

Anybody has tips for a 2 week training regime! Help!

Krankin @ Kent Ridge collective

October 9, 2008

Thought I’d share a fantastic video Karim put together for DirTraction.

Karim is the videographer who painstakingly cuts and pastes clips together to form the best snippets of mountain biking in Singapore. You’ll spot him at almost every race hiding behind the bushes or running behind a rider. If you see him next time, don’t forget to say hi and smile to the camera :). If you need similar projects done, drop him an email karimATatlifeDOTsg

NIPS?

October 9, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I find this quite wrong! I took this photo at a gas station in Malaysia.

There are quite a few references to that word, but these are the ones I’m talking about:

Nip may refer to:

  • Nip is a derogatory word for a Japanese person. It is derived from “Nippon”, the Japanese term for Japan. Usage in this context probably peaked around the time of World War II. It is seldom used this way today.
  • Nip Slang for nipple as in “Nip slip”
  • credit: Wikipedia

Of all words, couldn’t they have chosen a more P.C. name like Chocolate drops or choconuts?

Check out my new bling yo. Lovin’ the white and gold combination

If only I could wear this everyday!

    ADH1739 Midsize candy

    Features:
    - alarm
    - 5m water resistance
    - chronograph
    - 10 lap memory
    - countdown timer

Although it has all these features, I like it just as a fashion watch.

    Krankin@Kent Ridge - Debrief

    October 8, 2008

What a weekend! Pain and glory all rolled into one.

My first ever mountain bike race was at Kent Ridge in 2006, I came in 2nd place.

And in 2007, it was 4th place.
    Krankin@Kent Ridge 2007

    Circa 2006

    2 years on, 31 August 2008

Now, 2 years on, I’m back for my 3rd Kent Ridge MTB race.

Angela & Nicole before the Super D

I was a bit apprehensive about signing up for this race, ever since we came back from the U.S., we’ve only clocked in a few rides at Bukit Timah. We heard the DirTraction crew had made some amendments to the trail, so just a week before the race, we’d thought its best to familiarise ourselves with the trail.

    Mingloid

    Cheryl & Jon

    Birdman

O M G ! It was probably 3 times tougher than before, and I wasn’t sure I could even finish the race!

But for the love of the sport, I reluctantly signed up for the XC category.

DirTraction also introduced two more categories to the race this year: Super D & Short track

Super D: A super D race is best described as a timed downhill cross country race. They normally lack the technical danger packed elements of the downhill and in most cases, have some significant pedaling.

Short Track: The Short Track format is a mountain bike race similar to a criterium, riders will do multiple short laps of 700m in a short time frame of time.

So I signed myself up for Super D as well.

1st place-ers. I was rooting for William, was extremely happy to see him standing on the top podium.

How did it go? I have no idea how it happened, but I came in first in the XC Womens Open category!! Ok ok, there were only 4 girls that took part, but still, that’s one more girl than two years ago?!

All the girls had a pretty strong start, and it was clear that the Malaysian state rider would be the one to beat. She came out in front when we entered the trail, but as soon as we reached the first technical downhill, I knew where my strength lied. I managed to over take her on a rooty off camber downhill, and somehow managed to maintain that position through the two laps.

All the time in my head, I kept telling myself “Angela, you’re a shit climber, concentrate on your strengths, and bomb down the downhill and technical sections!”, and I did.

From then on, it was just me and the trail. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t easy. Some of the climbs were 1bpm away from a heart attack, and that’s when I was off the bike pushing!!

    Super D Champs

I took part in the Super D category too. It’s an open category, so us two girls (Me & Nicole) raced with the boys. Obviously no podium position, but it was the best fun all day! I loved it!

Wayne didn’t go home with a trophy, but he did win some bike goodies from the lucky draw. (check out the geek in pink laughing on the right! *guffaw

I know this post is long over due, but at least i got to it eventually.
