Great Eastern Run – 12 days to go

October 14th, 2008

Oh Noz! 2 weeks till the Women’s GE Run! Been running a bit here and there, but I’m no where near my desired fitness level. Doesn’t help that I’ve been down with the flu and been feeling kinda chubs!

*bloat*

Wow has it been one year since my first 10km run. Dang!

Anybody has tips for a 2 week training regime! Help!

Sigh, don’t remind me – i haven’t been training too! I’m panicking now :( Some more, i’ve got the New Balance Real Run (15km) this Sunday, followed by further 10km torture next Sunday.. I’m so dead!

Oh my gosh, you couldn’t look chubs even if you tried. That said though, there is this annoying flu/cold going around that FINALLY hit me… just as I was ramping up my gym workouts too :(

Hi Angela =) My sister used to do the nationals (cross-country) before she came from to Australia.

I do know what you eat in preparation for long distance is very important. Especially now with only 2 weeks left, she did mention a month before the nationals she went on a raw food diet. She basically had raw fruit and veges. Some sounded bit gross like blended broccoli and such. ew…. But she felt very good and even more energy then usual. She broke her personal best. You don’t have to go to that extreme though – while I was training for long distance. I basically ate very healthy, not leaving out carbs but having only good carbs.

Also, people make the big mistake of over-training themselves the last week before the actual run, make sure you have plenty of rest and just light training on that last week.

It’s 3am here so my sister is asleep and I can’t help you ask for more advice, but if you like, please feel free to e-mail me and I’ll ask her for you, we also have eating plans while training for things like that!

But i’m sure you’ll do just fine! You’ll be right mate ;)

kuromado (sorry i don’t like revealing my name on websites)!

kuromado: Heyaa… wow thanks for that advice! that’s really interesting, just this morning i was watching a short clip of the ellen degeneres show and they were talking about raw food diet. It’s a real detox as well.

I would love to see how you guys plan your meals before a race. interesting.

marie: they should give a medal for that… it’s an accomplishment, and you should be rewarded for it.

    hi angela,

i just finished my 10km borneo marathon..
i havent been practising for month or so because of fasting month..
was quite worried before the run started..
anyway, what i did was i stand in front of the starting line and just jog for 5km non stop..after that i walk n run..it works for me..;-).. i clock in 1:01:16..not a good timing but still ok considering i didnt run for a month!

Haha, it’s not brave of me @ all, more like being a real fool.. Haha ;p

Good luck & try to squeeze in easy runs from now till next Sunday. Remember to eat proper ‘fuel food’ before your race to prep for it too :) Hope to see you during the GE run! ;p
