Not a fan of Vday

February 18th, 2009

It’s not that I hate the notion of Valentine’s Day, I’m just not a fan of all the commercial crap that comes along with it. As we walked down Orchard Road, I’m shocked by the number of people who bought badly packaged roses at ridiculously inflated prices for their loved ones, don’t they realise we’re in recession? Not only that, but you embarrass them further by forcing them to carry it around town with one hand, a teddy bear in the other.

Then again, I’m sure it would be a different story if a bunch of tulips were to appear in front of me.

Danli made it a point to make sure I wasn’t going to spend Valentines Day alone this year, so we headed out to White Rabbit with the other girls to what was suppose to be a quiet night. Little did I know it was a singles night! Luckily for us by the time we arrived, the party was open to all. Aside from bad pick up lines, and long toilet queues, I had a great time reconnecting with old friends.

If only all Valentines Day could be this non-Valentine-sy.

But for those who DO celebrate this day, Happy Valentines Day!

Even though i’m attached, i do feel that Valentine’s Day’s been too commercialised too. I mean, it’s nice to receive gifts & all, but i always can’t help balking in horror @ the cheesy set menus, ugly bouquets (not to mention hair-raising prices) & worse, bad service everywhere. Tsk.

I agree. V Day is too commericalized. And especially when we are in such an unpredictable economy to have to for out hundreds of dollars for overpriced everything sounds insane. Whatever happened to being original? handmade card some effort into the gift does not have to be pricey or the outing either… anyone can throw cash onto a set menu/flowers but a nice gesture handmade well thought out goes even further…

I don’t remember celebrating V Day with any of my exes. It’s really the thought that counts since the ones I was with somehow don’t even seem to remember to say I love you, hahahaha. Oh honey, no men = no trouble indeed.

I didn’t even realised it was vday til dinner time and I couldn’t get a table all over town. I ended up having dinner at midnight.

Me dun like teddy bear nor single red rose too. But i’m a sucker for tulips! And guys should find out what type of flower their gf like instead of red roses bcos people say it stands for love.

hey angela, welcome back to blogging! valentine’s is overrated. for me, not because it’s commercialized, and how it makes people look silly, but why can’t every day be as special? keep posting!

Vday just has not been V day the last couple of years. Big fight preceeding the 08 one. This year, it was a week after my Dad passed away and my wife flew back back to KL on the day. So it was all alone at home. Plus its our anniversary too. V day so sucks.
