Fish Shopping with the Grays

June 19, 2008

2 weekends ago, mumsy thought it would be a nice idea to go fish shopping together. Our ponds were looking quite sad after our biggest koi ‘Lao Da’ died. The smaller pond has its ups and downs (in terms of numbers) because the birds keep eating the little guppies up!

I made a quick video below.

Off topic: I think goldfishes are ugly, especially the ones that look like they have brains as a face.

Kevin, Jie jie +1

May 9, 2008

I’ve heard a lot of stories on the severity of sibling rivalry; the screaming, fist fights, hair pulling, scratches and vulgarities. Me and my sister just never went through all that?! Is that weird? Maybe it’s the age difference? Or maybe it’s the threat of “the teng tiao” that hangs in the back kitchen with the brooms. Dang danggg….

Anyway, I’ve always had a lot of respect for my sister growing up; she was definitely miss goodie-two-shoes in the family. The one that read more books, didn’t get into too much trouble and did better in school.

Looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better sister. There’s no one else I’d rather do the egyptian walk around the house with, that was our thang. We’re such goofballs. I’m completely myself around her…

So I’ve wanted to post this draft for the longest time, but wanted to make sure I had the go ahead before doing so. A few weeks back, we celebrated my mum’s birthday as usual with a family dinner at home.

Guitar Hero

January 7, 2008

My name is Angela, and I am addicted to Guitar Hero.

Since we were all in ROCKER mode, we decided to take some rocker shots. Ok this is embarrassing, but only after 5mins did Wayne tell us we’re doing the wrong hand sign! Instead of the horns/devil hand sign, we were doing the “I love you” sign. Lose…

Ok! How embarrassing! At least we got this one right!

It’s so addictive Wayne comes over every other day, just so we can unlock more songs. We have currently finished medium level on Guitar Hero 1 and 2.

And as much as Wayne hates to admit it, I’m better than him at Guitar Hero too.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

December 28, 2007

And also congratulations on passing all his theory exams for his flying test. He scored the top overall mark in his class *proud*.

He really amazes me sometimes, at 63 and he’s still full of life and energy!

Cwissmas Twee

December 19, 2007

I didn’t have time to blog about then, but here it is finally. The Gray’s Christmas Tree! We haven’t been celebrating Christmas for the past few years, so it was nice to have the tree up in the house again. Brings back memories of Christmas morning, and us kids ripping the presents under the tree apart.

Wayne wasn’t too enthusiastic about putting up the tree, hence his face had to be replaced with Mr. Grumpy Goats.

I basically did most of it on my own, and I’m glad I had it up before the ICON Xmas Party.

FEMALE’s 50 Gorgeous People - FINALS

December 10, 2007

Finals were held at The Arena CLarke Quay on Friday night. Everything just happened so fast… it’s all still a blur at the moment.

The day started off quite slow, with work in the morning, and rehearsals for the show in the afternoon. We spent a lot of time chatting, eating, playing cards, and waiting for time to pass. We were all not prepared on just how hectic it was going to be at 8pm!

The afternoon was spent getting our gorgeous locks done up by the Sebastian Hair styling team, and our sexy smoky-eye make up carefully applied by the Bobbi Brown team. I wish I had a hair stylist and make up artist for everyday of my life!! They just made it look so easy to make us look good! I can never get the smoky-eye make up nailed!
Personally… I think the 3 important things that attributes to your gorgeousness is
1. Styling (clothes)
2. Hair
3. Make-up.
All of which were done for us by the wonderful people back stage.
When it hit 8pm, everyone was in a mad rush to get changed, heel-ed and touched up. 3, 2, 1…SHOWTIME!

My heart was beating out of my chest; it was so hard to shake off those nerves! AHhhhh… Was so nervous I even made a mistake on the second walk…instead of joining my group of no.1-10, I ended up on the other side of the stage (as pictured below, number 4 is missing). Whoops! Not to mention the added pressure of those 3-inch heels from ALDO.

I met so many gorgeous people that day; Nat was in the 50GP too, so it was great catching up with her. She looked absolutely stunning, just like a Greek goddess! Then there’s Huda who happens to be Penns’ friend and a PInc customer! She’s such a sweet girl; it was such a pleasure to meet her in person.

I had 4 invites to the show, so I asked my mum, dad, sister and Wayne. My cousin Yvonne also happened to be there with them. Didn’t want to get extra invites…you know… minimise the embarrassment to just the family?!?!

So at the end of the evening, I walked away with:
- Canon Most Photogenic
- Miss Bebe-licious, and
- Female’s Gorgeous Female 2007.
My goodness, I just can not believe it! I SWEAR I wasn’t expecting ANY of this AT ALL!! Wow!

After the show, Rachel, Alan and I had our first call of duty, a small walk down to the Haagen Daz store for some ice-cream. The mango sorbet really helped to cool my nerves.

Just to end this post on a reflective note, I reckon there were people on that same stage as me who deserved to win. I wish everyone stayed to share that bottle of champagne. Nonetheless, I’m glad everyone had a good time, because ultimately that was the goal.

BIG HUGS & THANKS TO MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND CLIENTS WHO SACRIFICED HALF OF THEIR MORNING KOPI MONEY SMSING TO GET ME INTO THE TOP 10.

Happy Birthday to me! - 8 Nov

November 10, 2007

Besides dinner, i spent most of my time at home. The AM was spent doing Rosco things, by lunch I was starving for some hot home cooked food. My mum volunteered to cook Xiao Long Bao, on the condition we helped her out.

By 2pm, my sister and i were covered with flour from all the rolling and folding.

Note: this was our first try.
They look pretty bad! The juices all escaped, the skin was too thick, the xiao long baos got stuck to the linen. But trust me, it tasted quite good! At least they were edible.

My mum made a secret cake for me too! Secret because she wouldn’t tell us what its made of. After that, it was a short game of MahJong before i had to get ready for dinner.

Wayne made reservations 2 weeks ago, and tried his very best to keep it a secret. And me being me, I love guessing him out! He ignored my attempts, but apparently I got it on the second try!

We went to Mortons steakhouse for some juicy steaks (duh!)

I must say, Mortons really went out of the way to personalise for the occasion. My menu was personalised, I had a picture taken, plus a free slice of cheesecake with a candle on top! I had party sprinkles on my table (probably also a cue for the staff to sing Happy Birthday). By the way… there were 6 other people celebrating their birthdays on that day, so it was kind of funny seeing them going table to table.

So all in all… I’ve had a fantastic birthday dinner, and Wayne was such a sweet heart. I’ve past the quarter century mark, and now its all downhill from here.

Irene Margaret Gray (aka Aggie)

August 16, 2007

“In God’s designs there is no haste,
no rest, no weariness, no discontinuity;
all things are done by HIM in the majesty
of silence, and they are seen under a light
that shineth quietly in the darkness.”
- Archdeacon Farrar-

Her service was held on the 14th of August at the St. Milburga’s Church, Stoke St Milborough. Everything was all according to her requests, from the service proceedings, hymns, musical pieces, poems to how she’d like to be laid to rest. I wish i saw her one last time, but i know she was watching down on me and keeping me safe during the Penang Eco Challenge that weekend. I had a guardian angel, and i know it was her.

After most of the family had visited her, Lucy, my cousin, told her “You’ve seen everyone now Aggie, if you need to go, you can go now”. Shortly after, on that afternoon… she passed.

I used to write her alot of handwritten letters when i was younger, and i always remember her ending letters with lots of kisses XOXO….i don’t know why i stopped. One day, i decided to write to her again, but she left before she could read it. But it’s ok, i’m sure she heard me… because i found out she passed later on that SAME day…

Aggie lived a fulfilling life, surrounded by people who loved her. She now rests peacefully near the front of the church overlooking her Cottage just down the road.

I’ll end this post with a poem she chose, which happens to be my favourite too. To my grandmother, and guardian angel, we will miss you Aggie! XOXO

Song
When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget

by Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830-1894)

Happy Farters Day…to our favourite Farter!

June 19, 2007

It’s an old joke, this “Farters Day” thing, my dad thought it was funny, and so did we….about 15 years ago?!

Sunday dinner at My Secret Garden. We were served by a lovely gentleman called Ronnie, who made sure we were happy with our food and provided great dessert recommendations at the end of our main course. And since it was Fathers’ Day, dessert was on the house for Daddy.

Jie jie was housing a hangover from the night before, so the thought of tomato based pasta or salmon steak didn’t really cut it for her. Instead she had two servings of bread and butter pudding and a cappuccino instead.

Top 3 recommendations:
Seafood Aglio Olio
Triple Choc with Vanilla ice cream
Blueberry cheesecake

Beach bums

June 12, 2007

Daddy wanted to take the Blursotong out for a run on Sunday, it’s been awhile since she last stretched her legs propellers?!

Why is it whenever we have guests on board it rains! And when it’s just us, the sun’s out in its full glory!

Pulau Hantu is under reclamation at the moment, so the only other island left to go to is the newly beached Lazarus Island, also known as Pulau Sekijang Pelepah. I say newly beached because it wasn’t there two years ago, an obvious move made by Sentosa to provide boaters from One Degree 15 and the IR with a new playground at their backyard.

The last 2 trips to Lazarus, workers were throwing sandbags into the sea, and planting coconut palms along the beach. At least there’s a bit of shade for the beach bums now. On sunday, there were at least seven boats there including the il lido boat. It seems like Lazarus is the next hip and happening southern island of Singapore!

“Lazarus island is yet another island with lush tropical vegetation, golden sands and aquamarine waters. For this reason, it is earmarked by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board for development into an inviting tropical beach resort island.” - courtesy of pagenation

Well whatever the plans are for Lazarus, it will never be a phi phi or phuket. With so much traffic at the ports, the waters will always remain mucky.

Wayne P’s B Day

May 18, 2007

Was a quiet one for Wayne’s 29th birthday, compared to the Surprise MacDonalds Party we organised last year. This time it was alot less planning, just had to make a reservation and give strict orders that I will be settling the bill. Under no circumstances does anyone else touch the bill. I was still spotty then, which explains why there isn’t a picture of me in the gallery. But here’s a lovely picture of the pereira siblings.

Mummy turns XX

April 18, 2007

She wanted to celebrate her birthday with Mahjong, Cheesecake, Mrs Mac Pies, and the company of her family. I miss having all of us together; it’s always such a riot. Nothing changes, my dad still has to refer to a little slip of paper with character translations, and we all start harassing him to hurry up and throw a tile.

I love my mum so much, every year my respect for her deepens. I believe we were soul mates…. if not, just creepily in tuned with each other.
