Off to a good start

April 28, 2008

I arrived to see two familiar faces, Jon and naree at the arrival hall. What a rush….to be back at my second home, great weather and to be here in time for one of my best friend’s birthday.

After i settled in, Jon and Naree took me to Leederville for coffee. We walked by this funky café with tons of oriental paper lamps hung from the ceiling. The walls were filled with concert posters from Robbie williams, armin van buuren, def tones, Marilyn Manson…you name it, its there on the wall. The placed smelt heavenly! I knew the coffee was going to be good just by the smell of it.

As we walked down the café…. I was thinking to myself… hmmm…. This green couch is so out of place… all the chairs were dark and… and… wait a minute… OMG… I’M IN THAT CAFE KAREN WAS TALKING ABOUT LAST WEEK!!!! Isn’t that bizarre!!

Jon and Naree

After coffee, Jon bought us dinner at Spaghis, this little Italian restaurant at Mends street, hold on to your knickers, I’ll save the best for last… ciao Italia on millpoint before i fly back.

Day 1 and i’m already so content, this break is off to a good start!

Martin & Laura

March 30, 2008

Wayne’s colleague Martin really wanted to try frog legs tonight, so we headed down to Geylang for some Beef Horfun, Seafood San Mee, Yam basket….and frog legs.

His girlfriend Laura and I were just disgusted, I don’t care if it tastes like chicken, I ain’t trying no kermits.

Martin and Laura are from Switzerland, and since we were already in Geylang, we had to show our visitors the Lorong tours! The part of Singapore that tourists don’t really see. The girls and lady boys were out in full force tonight, it looked like a fish market!

After that, we headed to Clarke Quay for a walk about, Shisha and drinks. Don’t you think the two boys look like brothers? Same built, similar hairstyles, same outfit (t-shirt, jeans and sneakers), both wearing a gold chain, dark brown eyes. So weird.

Anyway, I’m spent…..bedtime, good night!

Gifts mean so much more…

March 25, 2008

when the person actually remembers the things you love.

Gina knew what would get me all excited, stationery!

The last time we met, she bought me this pen which she swears by. And true enough, it writes nice and the ink flows well… and I especially love the colour choice!

Jeremy & Melanie

January 5, 2008

I’ve known Jem for quite a while now, but it was during his last semester I got to know him alot better. He was my house mate in Perth, and my Business Process Analysis group mate. Jem was an excellent housemate, he’s neat, he cooks, brews a fantastic latte, and loves dessert. Puurrrfeeeccct!

Jem tied the knot on the 24th November 2007 at the Church of the Risen Christ, followed by dinner at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

Congratulations Jem and Mel!

It’s Boxing Day…and i’m at work…by choice

December 26, 2007

I’ve been terrible at blogging nowadays. I leave it too late, and by the time I FIND the time, there’s a month full of events to post! I think I shall make that one of my new year resolutions.

This is for Wayne, who didn’t believe Leon when he brought up the significance of Boxing Day.

Boxing Day is a traditional celebration, dating back to the middle ages, and consisted of the practice of giving out gifts to employees, the poor, or to people in a lower social class. The name has numerous folk etymologies[3]; the Oxford English Dictionary attributes it to the Christmas box;
-courtesy of Wikipedia-

Last Saturday, we went over to Wan kiong and Steph’s new pad at Sennett for a Xmas/Housewarming/potluck get together. Lots of good food, wine, and a fun round of charades. Highlight of the night was Wayne trying to act out the second word of a movie. He kept pointing to his head, showed the “no more” hand sign, and then looked like he was eating. Only after did we realise he was trying to act out Botak Jones!!! for the movie Indiana Jones! *face palm*

Penang Boy in Singapore

December 23, 2007

Today’s ride was a fitness check for me. It’s been months since we cycled the Bukit Timah trail, but it’s a good test on my fitness. Conclusion? I’m even more unfit than I thought?! Climbs that I used to be able to clear, were just too much work today!

But as usual, I still had a great time! Good workout, Good Friends, Good ride, Good food.

Our Penang-ian friend Benny Boy is also in town, so we got him out bright and early to get a taste of the Singapore trails. Although I would have liked to take him to Poobin (Pulau Ubin), but that will have to wait till next time.

We did though check out Gangsa and their new 5ft drop. Fwaarrrr….

FEMALE’s 50 Gorgeous People - FINALS

December 10, 2007

Finals were held at The Arena CLarke Quay on Friday night. Everything just happened so fast… it’s all still a blur at the moment.

The day started off quite slow, with work in the morning, and rehearsals for the show in the afternoon. We spent a lot of time chatting, eating, playing cards, and waiting for time to pass. We were all not prepared on just how hectic it was going to be at 8pm!

The afternoon was spent getting our gorgeous locks done up by the Sebastian Hair styling team, and our sexy smoky-eye make up carefully applied by the Bobbi Brown team. I wish I had a hair stylist and make up artist for everyday of my life!! They just made it look so easy to make us look good! I can never get the smoky-eye make up nailed!
Personally… I think the 3 important things that attributes to your gorgeousness is
1. Styling (clothes)
2. Hair
3. Make-up.
All of which were done for us by the wonderful people back stage.
When it hit 8pm, everyone was in a mad rush to get changed, heel-ed and touched up. 3, 2, 1…SHOWTIME!

My heart was beating out of my chest; it was so hard to shake off those nerves! AHhhhh… Was so nervous I even made a mistake on the second walk…instead of joining my group of no.1-10, I ended up on the other side of the stage (as pictured below, number 4 is missing). Whoops! Not to mention the added pressure of those 3-inch heels from ALDO.

I met so many gorgeous people that day; Nat was in the 50GP too, so it was great catching up with her. She looked absolutely stunning, just like a Greek goddess! Then there’s Huda who happens to be Penns’ friend and a PInc customer! She’s such a sweet girl; it was such a pleasure to meet her in person.

I had 4 invites to the show, so I asked my mum, dad, sister and Wayne. My cousin Yvonne also happened to be there with them. Didn’t want to get extra invites…you know… minimise the embarrassment to just the family?!?!

So at the end of the evening, I walked away with:
- Canon Most Photogenic
- Miss Bebe-licious, and
- Female’s Gorgeous Female 2007.
My goodness, I just can not believe it! I SWEAR I wasn’t expecting ANY of this AT ALL!! Wow!

After the show, Rachel, Alan and I had our first call of duty, a small walk down to the Haagen Daz store for some ice-cream. The mango sorbet really helped to cool my nerves.

Just to end this post on a reflective note, I reckon there were people on that same stage as me who deserved to win. I wish everyone stayed to share that bottle of champagne. Nonetheless, I’m glad everyone had a good time, because ultimately that was the goal.

BIG HUGS & THANKS TO MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES AND CLIENTS WHO SACRIFICED HALF OF THEIR MORNING KOPI MONEY SMSING TO GET ME INTO THE TOP 10.

Doggy Daycare - Part quatre

November 12, 2007

Doggy Daycare update for Jandrew.

5:30am

  • Ling is picking me up at 6:45am to go to the race, so it was an early start for Rosco and I.
  • Morning walk pee pee poo poo, cleaned his pan and pen, played catch, tug and tricks
  • Ling is here, gave him food and milk
  • 3:30pm

  • Am in the middle of my 11 hour race, called home to check on Rosco. Apparently my dad took him out for a walk! What a ShoCKER! (my dad isn’t the dog walking sort! awwww)
  • Thought this video was really cute! It’s of Rosco sprinting around the Garden with Wayne!

    8:30pm

  • I’m done with the race! Went home and saw Rosco for the last time before Janice and Andrew came by to pick him up
  • He pee pee-ed on his blanket though, so my mum washed it.
  • Bye bye Rosco!

Happy Birthday to me! - 8 Nov

    November 10, 2007

Besides dinner, i spent most of my time at home. The AM was spent doing Rosco things, by lunch I was starving for some hot home cooked food. My mum volunteered to cook Xiao Long Bao, on the condition we helped her out.

By 2pm, my sister and i were covered with flour from all the rolling and folding.

Note: this was our first try.
They look pretty bad! The juices all escaped, the skin was too thick, the xiao long baos got stuck to the linen. But trust me, it tasted quite good! At least they were edible.

My mum made a secret cake for me too! Secret because she wouldn’t tell us what its made of. After that, it was a short game of MahJong before i had to get ready for dinner.

Wayne made reservations 2 weeks ago, and tried his very best to keep it a secret. And me being me, I love guessing him out! He ignored my attempts, but apparently I got it on the second try!

We went to Mortons steakhouse for some juicy steaks (duh!)

I must say, Mortons really went out of the way to personalise for the occasion. My menu was personalised, I had a picture taken, plus a free slice of cheesecake with a candle on top! I had party sprinkles on my table (probably also a cue for the staff to sing Happy Birthday). By the way… there were 6 other people celebrating their birthdays on that day, so it was kind of funny seeing them going table to table.

So all in all… I’ve had a fantastic birthday dinner, and Wayne was such a sweet heart. I’ve past the quarter century mark, and now its all downhill from here.

    Doggy Daycare - Part trois

    November 10, 2007

    Doggy Daycare update for Jandrew!

    7:30am

  • It rained and rained and rained last night. Luckily the skies opened up for awhile in the morning so I could take Rosco out for a poo poo pee pee trip
  • Sorry Janice, Rosco chewed through your rope ball toy….hahhahaha I’d rather that than something else in the house! He’s got really sharp teeth!
  • Oops, looks like one poo in the morning wasn’t enough…second poo in the garden!
  • As usual, he stayed on the patio while my dad and I ate breakfast. I think he has warmed up to me, he follows me wherever I go, like my shadow!
  • 2:00pm

  • Rosco went for another walk, lots of games, and cuddles.
  • He also thinks he can fly… check out the action shot as he ran towards me!
  • 6:05pm

  • I’m tired from running around the house…. and so is rosco! *pant pant pant*

    Doggy Daycare - Part duex

    November 9, 2007

Public holiday is over, and so is my birthday. So back to work for me! But thank goodness it’s a friday, just one day of work!

Here is the Doggy Daycare update for Jandrew!

    6:30am

  • Woke up early this morning to take Rosco for a walk. We walked all the way to the other park at Mt. Sinai and back.
  • He spent alot of time sniffing trees, grass, dustbins, cars, flowers and insects. He was alert and aware of all the sounds
around him, barks, cars, doors, crickets, frogs and the newspaper man.
  • Cleaned up his pan, and bowls, filled with milk, then water and food.
  • I let Rosco out in the garden, but he chose to stay on the patio while me and my dad ate breakfast
  • After brekkie, we spent a good time playing catch and running around in the back garden.
  • *update 3:00pm

  • Called my mum for an update, he’s having a afternoon snooze after his run around the garden with my mum.
  • *update 8:54pm

  • When I came back, we went for the poo poo pee pee walk. He got a bit scared of all the dogs barking in the neighbourhood. Whenever we pass a house with a dog, he goes into double time!
  • When we came back, it was a game of fetch, and tug-of-war
  • Rosco got a shower, seeing that he has been out on the grass and stuff, didn’t want him bringing home “friends”! i.e. ticks!!
  • He didn’t finish this morning’s food, so I added a bit of puppy milk to entice him. Chomp chomp chomp, all gone!
  • I think he’s feeling lethargic after the shower, must have been the cold water. Time for ME to have a shower now!
  • *update 10:15pm

  • Wayne came over for a bit of playtime. And Rosco is now starting to wind down
  • Good Night!

Doggy Day Care - Part Un

    November 8, 2007

Janice & Andrew are away for the weekend, so Rosco is over at

    “Gray’s Doggy Daycare”!

I found a pretty good Pet care template on Microsoft Word which Janice could fill out. It had place holders for everything from dietary requirements to Emergency contact numbers. Janice really thought of everything when she wrote that list, it’s a thorough two pager with everything I need to know.

Janice is missing him already. Since she has wireless at where she is, I thought I’d update this entry throughout the day for her.

    7:00am

  • Woke up, and Rosco just stirred as well. He got a bit excited to see me, he pee-ed a bit on his blanket.
  • We went for a walk in the neighbourhood. Pee-ed, Poo-ed. Good boy! He got a wipe down and was treated with his puppy milk. Filled his bowls with food and water.
  • He wasn’t that interested in the food, so we played catching around the living room and tug-of-war.
  • *update 10:00am

  • Washed his pee pee blanket and put it out to dry.
  • Rosco loved the garden and decided to do laps around the house! For a dog with such short legs, he is freakin fast!!!!!!
  • I think the running tired him out, he’s taking a nap now
  • *update 5:30pm

  • My sister came over for lunch and to celebrate my birthday, extra love from another Gray!
  • *update 10:30pm

  • I just got back from dinner with Wayne. About the same time Mumsy and Daddy-O came back from a walk with Rosco. Wayne stayed on to play with the lil fella till it was bed time. Zzzzz…. night night rosco

Look at the lovely chocies that she bought the office! Aren’t they gorgeous!

    Nawaz and his bear claws.
We got her two mini cakes/deserts from Ricotti. We will definately didn’t miss her here!

    A Midsummer Night’s Dream

    May 30, 2007

Boo played ‘cobweb’ at the Repertory Theatre’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at Fort Canning Park 2 weekends ago. We brought some Wine, brie, green apple, water biscuits and a mat. Got that picture in your head? Now cut and paste it into a cooler country, like Perth, and it would have been perfect.

    ICON Mahjong Night

    May 23, 2007

FINALLY…we got round to organising Mahjong Night! On monday night, My colleagues Marlene, Andrew and Weiren came over to my place after work for an absolutely mind-blowing curry dinner cooked by my helper.

Andrew was on a roll, unbelievable luck, to the point that the three of us “combined forces” and tried to “draw out” the luck from him (as pictured)! After rounds and rounds of hard work, all i won was $3.20! But that’s alright…win or lose, i just love playing the game.

I had buckets of fun and laughter, looking forward to the next session.

    Liar Liar pants on fire

    April 20, 2007

The iconites surprised Janice yesterday with an early birthday lunch. She had the impression she was going in for a new biz concall in the conference room, so it was pretty funny to see her reaction when she opened the door and got a big fat surprise!

    Here’s the email i circulated a few days before…

    Final order of events:

11:45pm Food arrives.Sneak it into meeting room (i.c.Seet)

11:50pm “Bye Janice, we’re going for EARLY lunch, want us to buy back anything from Maxwell… No? ok.. see you later”
    (i.c. Andrew to lead contingent)

In actual fact, we all adjourn to the meeting room….quietly

Light candles on cake (p.s. Weiren IS baking)

11:55pm Judith says “hey Janice, lets just set up in the meeting room for the concall, ill give you a rundown on the account before we talk to them.”

12:00pm Janice opens meeting room doors
SURPRISE!!!! Everyone sings Happy Birthday Song!

    Then lunch….

we are such liars… for good reasons… Happy Birthday Janice!

    Were you wearing white today?

    April 13, 2007

I swear it was Debbs standing right next to me in the MRT…. literally right next to me. I had my earphones on, listening to scott mills run off the treadmill, so i wasn’t paying attention to the people around me. Debbs…. was it you?

If it wasn’t… i could have seriously, potentially, made a big fool of myself in a packed MRT.
If it was …i can’t believe we stood through the whole journey and didn’t say hi!
