Incubus – Love Hurts

March 8th, 2010

Tonight we drink to youth
And holding fast to truth
I don’t want to lose what I had as a boy
My heart still has a beat
But love is now a feat
As common as a cold day in LA
Sometimes when I’m alone, I wonder
Is there a spell that I am under
Keeping me from seeing the real thing?

Love hurts…
But sometimes it’s a good hurt
And it feels like I’m alive.
Love sings,
When it transcends the bad things.
Have a heart and try me,
’cause without love I won’t survive.

I’m fettered and abused,
I stand naked and accused
Should I surface this one man submarine?
I only want the truth
So tonight we drink to youth!
I’ll never lose what I had as a boy.
Sometimes when I’m alone I wonder
Is there a spell that I am under
Keeping me from seeing the real thing?

Love hurts…
But sometimes it’s a good hurt
And it feels like I’m alive.
Love sings,
When it transcends the bad things.
Have a heart and try me,
’cause without love I won’t survive.

Flight Facilities – Crave You

January 26th, 2010

Heard this first on Perez and I love it. You heard it here first…. or second… :)

The identity of the artists behind Flight Facilities remains mysterious… Rumour has it that this project is the brainchild of Jimmy 2 Sox and (possibly) U-Go-B, two Sydneysiders affiliated with Australian electro labels Bang Gang 12 inches and Modular.

Plans to work together were formed then but didn’t really take off until the following year when they met again at the secret Bang Gang Runway party. This time, real plans were formed and and they started doing some remixes for a bunch other artists such as Bag Raiders, The Lowbrows, Toecutter and Sneaky Sound System.

They are just about to release a fantastic single, “Crave You”, that will be out in a couple of months (March 26th to be exact). They are also planning to release an album called Taking Flight some time in 2010.

Hope for Haiti

January 25th, 2010

Here’s my favourite two favourite performances at the Hope for Haiti telethon concert. There are lots of ways and channels to help, here is one of many.

A wonderful rendition of Hallelujah done by Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris at the Hope for Haiti benefit concert. One of the best I’ve heard. So far I love the Jeff Buckley version, but I must say this one comes a close second to the Jason Castro one.

Graffiti 6 – Over You

January 11th, 2010

As you know, i’m a huge Jamie Scott & The Town fan, terribly starstruck when I got a chance to meet them at SingFest in 2008.

SingFest 2007 with Jamie Scott & The Town

Now he has collaborated with Tommy D to form Graffiti6, who have produced the successful track Stare Into the Sun. I came across this video from The Sun newspaper online. An amazing song done acoustic called Over you, I love love love LOVE it.

And somehow, this song struck a chord. Felt a sudden pang of sadness, and buried emotions resurfaced. I wish I could hear him play live again, pure talent. Someone please hook me up with a live gig if I’m ever in the UK this year!

I don’t think it has been released, so you heard it here first!

Graffiti 6 – Over You
Lay down your armour baby
No need to fight no more
Coz i have been wondering darling
We should just stop this war

but it’s alright
nothing lasts forever baby
it’s alright
now i can dance

coz I’m over you
this time is the last time
I’m over you
I can change
said I am over love
this time is the last time
always my love

no need for arguments
just walk through the door baby
sometimes I don’t know what we’re talking about
you lose yourself i lose myself baby

but its alright
nothing lasts forever baby
its alright
now I can dance

coz I’m over you
this time is the last time
I’m over you
I can change
said I am over love
this time is the last time
always always

And maybe yeah it took a long time
when you’re running away from truths you can’t find
maybe yeah it was a hard time
when love had gone

Now I’m over you
this time is the last time
I’m over you
I can change
said I am over love
this time is the last time
always always

Now I’m over you
this time is the last time
I’m over you
I can change
said I am over love
this time is the last time
always Mmmmm

Zee Avi in Singapore

I discovered this gem of a singer a few months back when I heard her on YouTube. Her music style was very much like Jack Johnson; mellow, acoustic, slightly melancholic together with a unique jazz-like vocals. Only after doing a bit more research did I find out she was signed on with monotone/Brushfire Records, the latter owned by Jack.

Was lucky to score an invite to last night’s gig at Timbre@Art House for her showcase organised by 98.7fm (Thanks Vanessa!) Was still feeling ill but this was too good to miss! Definitely not disappointing at all, she sounded great live. I had the pleasure of meeting her as well after the gig, and I have to say, she is the sweetest thing! I wish her all the success.

Here are my two of my favourite songs below. Others I like are: “First of the Gang and Bitterheart”

Oh btw, sorry for the hiatus. Be prepared to be to be inundated with random blog posts, food reviews and pictures in the next week!

Happen to come across this guy’s YouTube channel and I’m just blown away. Definitely worth sharing… You heard it first here.

When I first listened to this track, I found myself bobbing my head at my desk. Just makes you want to move and dance.

This one just demonstrates his vocal prowess.

Viva la Vida

March 26th, 2009

Coldplay’s concert two years ago was absolutely fantastic, so I wouldn’t expect anything less for the 2009 tour. Being a bit cash-strapped, I decided not to go. So I watched the sections on the sistic website turn red one by one. Within a day or so, all tickets were sold out.

Weeks went by, and I suddenly felt a pang of regret for not getting myself a ticket. So I resorted to listening to their music on my ipod all month, in hopes I’d get so sick of their songs I wouldn’t feel so bad missing their show.

To cut the long story short, I got a call from Danli 1.5hrs before the show asking if I’d like to go to Coldplay, because C+1 couldn’t make it.

“Hell yeah! I’m there!”

Showered and dressed in record time, I picked up Danli, Evan and Karen from Bugis and we all headed to the Singapore Indoor Stadium together.

The best part? Only found out when we saw the tickets, we got row 2 seats! OMG ROW 2! We were so close to them, it felt almost surreal.

It was undoubtedly the best concert I’ve been to.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening, they played all their greatest hits and new songs from their Viva la Vida album.

I especially love how they keep the crowds engaged throughout the evening, either through gimmicks, videos, visuals but also their use of stage space.

My favourite moment would have to be the butterfly confetti shower.

I wish I had a better camera to take better photos. All these photos were taken from my canon point-and-shoot.

Posted here are all the best shots I got, the rest were very “noisy” due to the high ISO. Tough compromise.

So would I pay to see them again in 2 years time? Definitely.

Here’s a video compilation of my amazing night with Coldplay.
