Clearing the back log… here we go!

1. My ex is: an ex for a reason

2. Maybe I should: move to the UK/NY/HK/Australia for awhile

3. I love: too easily

4. I don’t understand: Thermodynamics and statistical mechanics

5. I lose: focus easily

6. People say I: should drink more water!

7. Love is: not just passion and compatibility, but also respect and admiration.

8. Somewhere, someone is: dragging a Christmas tree along their snow covered lawn into the house, about to decorate it with tinsel, lights, baubles and ornaments.

9. I will always: turn the chair away from me before I sleep.

10. Forever is: never forever. I don’t believe in forevers anymore.

11. I never want to: settle for something less than what I deserve.

12. I think the current US President: is a refreshing change.

13. When I wake up in the morning: I wipe the drool away, turn off the aircon and jump straight into the shower, no dilly-dally! Get UP and Get Going!

14. My past was: messy with sparks of awesomeness!

15. I get annoyed when: SICC keeps sending me rubbish by post! Save the planet people, stop printing useless minutes and notices and stick them online instead. At least have an opt out function in place.

16. Parties are for: all

17. My dog is: across the rainbow bridge.

18. My cat is: non-existent.

19. Kisses are the best when: you least expect them. Like when you’re walking on the busy side walks of Hong Kong and he stops you in your steps and turns to give you smooch. Hot!

20. Tomorrow: I’m going to spend quality time with the family! Auntie Wendy is in town

21. I really want: to see snow again…

22. I have low tolerance for people who: don’t have a good head on their shoulders.

23. I am tagging: everyone

Wednesday, the middle of a work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week. The middle of the week, implying that you have to get “over the hump” before you can anticipate the weekend.
Nip may refer to:

Nip is a derogatory word for a Japanese person. It is derived from “Nippon”, the Japanese term for Japan. Usage in this context probably peaked around the time of World War II. It is seldom used this way today.

To most of us it has always seemed obvious that an octopus has eight arms.
But experts have now revealed that this assumption is wrong – as two of their long tentacle-like limbs are in fact legs.

A study by scientists at Sea Life centres across Europe found that the invertebrates move across the sea bed using their two rearmost limbs, leaving the other six free for the important business of feeding.

Researchers who observed the creatures in action found they push off with the “legs” and then employ the other tentacles to pump themselves along.

The study, the largest of its type carried out, was designed to show if octopuses favoured one side or the other.

But it found that octopuses are ambidextrous, though many seem to favour their third arm from the front to eat with.

Octopuses either swim or crawl across the seabed.

If they need to move fast they can shoot a jet of water from an opening in their body.

Scientists from 20 centres across Europe analysed data from 2,000 observations of common octopuses to get the results.

Claire Little, a marine expert from the Weymouth Sea Life Centre in Dorset, said: “We’ve found that octopuses effectively have six arms and two legs.

“Observations showed that they use the rearmost two to get around over rocks and the seabed.

“They also use these two legs to push off when they wish to swim, and then other tentacles are used to propel them.”

15. Wake the dead!
If your hand falls asleep while you’re driving or sitting in an odd position, rock your head from side to side. It’ll painlessly banish your pins and needles in less than a minute, says Dr. DeStefano. A tingly hand or arm is often the result of compression in the bundle of nerves in your neck; loosening your neck muscles releases the pressure. Compressed nerves lower in the body govern the feet, so don’t let your sleeping dogs lie. Stand up and walk around.

16. Impress your friends!
Next time you’re at a party, try this trick: Have a person hold one arm straight out to the side, palm down, and instruct him to maintain this position. Then place two fingers on his wrist and push down. He’ll resist. Now have him put one foot on a surface that’s a half inch higher (a few magazines) and repeat. This time his arm will fold like a house of cards. By misaligning his hips, you’ve offset his spine, says Rachel Cosgrove, C.S.C.S., co-owner of Results Fitness, in Santa Clarita, California. Your brain senses that the spine is vulnerable, so it shuts down the body’s ability to resist.

17. Breathe underwater!
If you’re dying to retrieve that quarter from the bottom of the pool, take several short breaths first—essentially, hyperventilate. When you’re underwater, it’s not a lack of oxygen that makes you desperate for a breath; it’s the buildup of carbon dioxide, which makes your blood acidic, which signals your brain that somethin’ ain’t right. “When you hyperventilate, the influx of oxygen lowers blood acidity,” says Jonathan Armbruster, Ph.D., an associate professor of biology at Auburn University. “This tricks your brain into thinking it has more oxygen.” It’ll buy you up to 10 seconds.

18. Read minds!
Your own! “If you’re giving a speech the next day, review it before falling asleep,” says Candi Heimgartner, an instructor of biological sciences at the University of Idaho. Since most memory consolidation happens during sleep, anything you read right before bed is more likely to be encoded as long-term memory.
